Bundesliga to start UHD live coverage

Bundesliga Sportcast (DFL)Germany’s national football association Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) will provide Bundesliga live games in Ultra HD from autumn 2016 for the first time.

Initially, one game per match day will be produced in the new standard, to be broadcast live by pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland. There have also been early expressions of interest in the UHD content from the Bundesliga’s international TV partners, according to DFL.

The official introduction of the Bundesliga coverage in UHD was preceded by an intense test period in collaboration with DFL’s production subsidiary Sportcast and Sky Deutschland.

“The introduction of the UHD technology demonstrates once again the innovative strength of the Bundesliga,” said Dr Holger Blask, director audiovisual rights and responsible for the DFL strategy in this field. “We are pleased to be able to provide our live broadcasting rights partners with yet another top product.”
